One amongst the key areas ZAPDD works on is awareness creation on challenges and malice facing persons with intellectual disabilities.
Being one amongst the minority and the most disadvantaged section of the population in Zanzibar, challenges and malice facing persons with intellectual disabilities have largely been forgotten or ignored. They are victims of social injustice and cruel acts such as abuse including beating, libel, sexual perpetration, denial and isolation just to mention a few.
Such inhumane acts have been occurring on a daily basis within their communities and public space including public institutions as a result of negative attitudes and stereotype against persons with intellectual disabilities. To address the challenge, ZAPDD conducts awareness raising campaign to the general public through various channels to conscioutise decision makers and the communities, so that necessary steps could be taken to protect their rights and ensure decent and comfortable living through enjoyment of all enshrined human rights, so that,
