The implementation of the project started in 2014. It has since then been implemented in phases. The project is funded by OSIEA The main goal of the project is to create conducive environment for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) access justice. It involves capacity building in reasonable accommodation, training to magistrates, prosecutors, officers from Department of Public Prosecution, local government leaders, community leaders, PWIDs themselves, their siblings, and journalists on intellectual disability (concept) as another form of disablity and the disability rights base on UNCRPD.

It so far involved various researches including a Research on Barriers in the Reporting, Investigation and Prosecution of Sexual Crimes committed against Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Zanzibar, and a Baseline Survey on Awareness, Practice and Prevalence of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) against People with Intellectual Disabilities in Zanzibar.

The initiative was created to combat the spiral wave of SGBV against PWIDs, where the perpetrators were escaping with impunity due to various reasons including gaps in the existing laws, lack of knowledge on intellectual disability among legal practitioners, negative attitudes among community members, and lack of community protection and security to PWIDs, just to mention a few.
